A new life at the Caribbean Island of Saint Martin is possible very easy!
The island is a part of the European Union and you don't need any permits to live and work at this beautiful island.
Come and stay as long as you like! As a citizen of the European Union you have these rights. It is French but since 2008 English is the offical language!
Saint Martin is located only 190 KM away from the US-Virgin Islands. The islands major income source is tourism.
Usually French people don't like to speak any other language but French. But here they have no other choice!
The American and Canadian tourists travelling to the island only speak English and that's why the French need to speak English.
Without the English they are unable to sale services and products.
The international Princess Juliana Airport is conected to major cities in the USA like Miami (2 hours flight), Charleston, Atlanta, Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and Baltimore.
If you are a citizen of the European Union and like to start a business at Saint Martin, you qualify for financial aid from the European Union.
When you take residence, you are not required to register your address. In France people are not required to register!
Your driving license remains valid. If you find employment, your employer get you a social security number within 4 weeks. You will have all the social security and medical insurance just like home. If you loose your job, you will get unemployment benefit.
Philipsburg Sint Maarten got one of the largest cruise terminals in the Caribbean.
Usually Wednesday is the most busy day of the week.
Almost 25.000 passengers arrive in the port. At the same time people arrive at Princess Juliana Airport and at the port of French Marigot.
Sint Maarten is not member of the European Union and because of that it is more difficult to find a job. But not impossible! Local tour operators like Eagle Tours hire people from
the French side and pay in cash.
It is also possible to obtain a business license and start a business at Sint Maarten!
Because this small island is shared by 2 nations, life is more difficult.
You start a new life at two country's at a time. Two different law and tax systems,
2 police departments, power/water/elecricity supply, no mater what, everything is
times two! Saint Martin got the metric system, Sint Maarten the American standart.
The island got advantages and disadvantages.
You need advice to start that new life hassle free.
Prevent mistakes and get an inside view from a local!
Example: Should you buy a car at St. Maarten and register at the French side?
If you make mistakes you have headache and loose money!
